On 5 May 1962, the “All India Heart Foundation” was established, primarily through the efforts of India's first woman cardiologist, Padma Vibhushan Awardee, Dr. S. Padmavati. She was greatly influenced by her guru Dr. Paul Dudley White, who sought to transform the way medical science catered to the needs of a common person.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step…. And that step was taken in 1981, when the National Heart Institute (NHI) was established as the nation’s first dedicated cardiac care institute and the first private-sector cardiac catheterization laboratory outside the ‘developed world’ at that time. National Heart Institute CSR initiatives improve healthcare access through free cardiac surgeries, health camps, preventive screenings, financial assistance, and community partnerships. Programmes such as Gift of Life, Vyadhi Nidhi, Winning Heart, HFCL CSR, and free OPD/IPD services have transformed thousands of lives across underserved communities.
